Amadeus – Sky’s five-part drama about Mozart – debuted in the UK to mixed critical reviews but strong audience praise. On Rotten Tomatoes it holds about 82% positive from critics[1][2], yet opinions vary widely. Major outlets were split: The Guardian panned Amadeus (2/5 stars), calling it “flat, airless and banal” and a “pale, petty version” of the beloved 1984 film[3]. The Telegraph was lukewarm (3/5), deeming the lavish production “loud and lavish” but saying it “doesn’t match the original’s exploration of the composer’s brilliance”[4]. In contrast, others were impressed – The Evening Standard (4/5) praised Amadeus as a “messy, sexy riot” and a “Christmas must-watch”[5], while Financial Times hailed it as “a rip-roaring update driven by decadence”[5]. (Italy’s press echoed this divide: Wired Italia enjoyed the series as “pleasant entertainment” with “more than decent” results, “albeit inferior” to Forman’s classic[6].) Despite some critics’ reservations, the performances of Will Sharpe (as Mozart) and Paul Bettany (as Salieri) have earned widespread praise for their energy and depth. And importantly, audiences are loving it. British viewers on social media and forums have raved that Amadeus is “an absolute jewel of a series…perfection”[7]. Fans applaud its sumptuous 18th-century sets, superb music, and emotional storytelling – one user wrote that it “delivers exactly what you’d expect from a high-budget period drama: lavish sets…excellent cast…and the music is, unsurprisingly, superb.”[8] In short, UK word-of-mouth is very positive, counterbalancing the mixed critic reviews and suggesting Amadeus could become a sleeper hit heading into 2026.

When Can We See Amadeus in Other Countries?

Sky’s Amadeus premiered first in the UK, but it is gradually rolling out internationally. Below is a country-by-country overview of where and when the series is available (or upcoming as of December 31, 2025):

United Kingdom:Already released. All five episodes dropped in the UK on 21 December 2025 via Sky Atlantic (TV) and the NOW streaming service[9]. (This was the world premiere, with Sky as the producing network.) UK viewers got the whole series at once for holiday binge-watching.

Germany & Austria:Already released. Sky operates in German-speaking markets, so Amadeus launched there simultaneously with the UK. All episodes became available on 21 Dec 2025 through Sky’s streaming app WOW, and Sky Atlantic (Germany) then aired the series in a two-night Christmas marathon on 25–26 Dec (three episodes each night)[10]. German and Austrian Sky subscribers have had full access (with local dubbing/subtitles) since the end of 2025.

Italy:Already released. Sky Italia debuted Amadeus for Italian audiences on 23 December 2025, exclusively on Sky’s channels and streaming on NOW[11]. (Italy even held a preview event in early December.) Italian viewers can stream all episodes on Sky/NOW as of that date. Early Italian reviews appreciated the series but noted it “pales in comparison” to the classic film[6], similar to some UK critiques.

Australia:Already released. Australian fans didn’t have to wait – the series landed down under on 21 Dec 2025 as well. All episodes are streaming on Binge, Australia’s platform for prestige dramas[12]. (Foxtel’s Showcase channel also premiered it around the same time.) So Aussies have been able to watch Amadeus since the UK launch, and local reactions have been enthusiastic.

Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland):Coming very soon via SkyShowtime. The pan-European SkyShowtime service (jointly run by Comcast/Sky and Paramount) will stream Amadeus starting 2 January 2026 across the Nordic countries[13]. Viewers in these countries just need a SkyShowtime subscription to stream all episodes with local subtitles from that date.

Other SkyShowtime Regions (Central & Eastern Europe, Netherlands, Spain, etc.):Coming 2 Jan 2026 on SkyShowtime. Outside of the UK/Italy/Germany markets, most European countries are served by SkyShowtime, which has confirmed Amadeus will be available from January 2 across its territories[13]. This includes Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Andorra and a large number of Central/Eastern European markets (such as Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and more). Essentially, if SkyShowtime operates in your country, you will be able to stream Amadeus in early January 2026 via that service.

Canada:Coming soon (early 2026). In Canada, rights have been acquired by Corus Entertainment as part of its 2025/26 lineup. The series will air on Corus’s specialty channel Showcase, likely in the first months of 2026[14]. (Corus has a content deal with NBCUniversal/Sky, and Amadeus was officially announced as a Showcase exclusive in the midseason schedule.) Canadian viewers can expect Amadeus on Showcase and the StackTV streaming bundle once a premiere date is set – keep an eye out for announcements, but it’s on the way.

United States:Not yet available. As of early 2026, there is no U.S. release date or platform confirmed. NBCUniversal (Sky’s parent) is handling international distribution and has said details of a US release are “forthcoming”[9]. Industry speculation suggests it may end up on Peacock (NBCUniversal’s streamer) or another affiliated outlet, but no deal is finalized. In the meantime, American Mozart fans will have to wait for an official announcement – or resort to VPN methods to stream the show from a foreign service, as some have cheekily done.

France:No release announced yet. Unfortunately for French audiences, aucune diffusion n’est prévue en France pour l’instant – no French broadcaster or streamer has picked up Amadeus so far[15]. Since Sky isn’t present in France, the series would need to be licensed to a local platform (Canal+? Netflix or Amazon France?), but as of now, there’s no news. French fans will have to be patient or use imports; negotiations for France may still be underway in 2026.

Japan:No information yet. There have been no announcements of a Japanese release. Unless a Japanese network or streaming service acquires it later, Japanese viewers don’t have an official way to watch Amadeus at this time. (Given Mozart’s global fame, it’s possible a deal could happen eventually, but nothing confirmed yet.)

China:No information yet. Similarly, no China release has been noted. It’s relatively rare for British limited series to immediately air in China, especially if they contain mature content. As of now there’s no indication Amadeus will stream on any Chinese platforms in the near future. Chinese viewers keen on the show might have to seek out international versions unofficially.

Bottom Line:Amadeus is rolling out internationally in stages. By early 2026, it will be accessible across most of Europe, Australia, and Canada, following its successful UK launch. Major markets still awaiting it (the US, France, etc.) are likely to get it later in 2026 once distribution deals close[9]. In the meantime, the series’ buzz and positive audience reception in the UK (and in countries like Italy and Germany where it’s already aired) suggest that Amadeus will be worth the wait for Mozart lovers around the world.
